Logs and Firewood Delivered in Chester, Cheshire and the Wirral
All Seasons NW has been felling, chipping and processing timber around Chester since 1993. The logs we sell are not bought in from a wholesaler. They come off our own tree work, get cut and split at our yard on Woodbank Lane, and are stacked in crates to dry before they go anywhere near a customer.
Hardwood £150 a cubic metre. Softwood £120. Mixed £130. Kindling £5 a net. Delivered loose and tipped where you want it, free within 10 miles, and there is no minimum order. Call 01244 880262 or 07885 680412 to order.
Log prices
Everything is priced per cubic metre and delivered loose. No separate delivery charge inside our free radius, no minimum spend and no deposit.
- Hardwood, £150 a cubic metre. Oak, ash and beech. The densest wood we cut, so it burns longer and gives out more heat per load. This is what most people want for an open fire or a log burner they run every evening through the winter.
- Softwood, £120 a cubic metre. Larch. Lights easily and gets a fire going quickly, burns faster than hardwood. Good value if you are burning a lot, and popular for pizza ovens, fire pits and chimineas.
- Mixed, £130 a cubic metre. Hardwood and softwood together. The sensible middle option and our most popular load. Softwood to get it lit, hardwood to keep it going.
- Kindling, £5 a net. Add a few nets to any delivery and save yourself chopping it.
We sell loose loads only. No bulk bags, no tonne bags, no nets of logs and no crates. The load is tipped off the van straight onto your drive, so you are not paying for packaging you are only going to throw away.
Buy one cubic metre if that is all you need
Plenty of log firms round here will not get the van out for less than two or three cubic metres, and some set a minimum spend north of £200 before they will deliver at all. We do not. If you want a single cubic metre dropping on the drive, that is a normal order and it still comes with free delivery inside 10 miles.
It means you can try a load without committing to a winter’s worth, and top up when you need to rather than finding space for a pallet of wood in September.
What a cubic metre actually looks like
A cubic metre is a lot more wood than people expect the first time they order one. Tipped loose it makes a heap roughly the size of a large domestic wheelie bin turned on its side, and it will take up a decent corner of a single garage or the width of a standard parking space.
As a rough guide, one cubic metre of hardwood will keep an average log burner going for most evenings across four to six weeks in the depths of winter, depending on the size of the stove and how hard you run it. Most households in our area order two or three cubic metres at a time and top up in the new year.
Delivery
Delivery is free within 10 miles of our yard in Chester. That covers Chester itself, Ellesmere Port, the south Wirral villages and most of the Deeside and Flintshire side of the border.
Further out than that we look at it case by case. It depends on the size of the order and where exactly you are, and if you are not far past the 10 mile mark we will usually still do it free on orders of two cubic metres or more. Give us a postcode when you call and we will tell you straight away.
The logs come loose on the van and get tipped where you want them. If access is tight, if there is a gate we need to get through, or if the only place for the heap is round the back, say so when you book and we will work out the best way to do it rather than turning up and finding out.
Where our logs come from and how they are dried
We are a tree surgery and vegetation management firm first. Every load of logs starts as timber we have taken down ourselves on a job somewhere between Chester, the Wirral and North Wales. Nothing is imported and nothing is bought in green off a lorry to be turned round the same week.
Once it is cut and split it goes into crates in the yard and is left to dry naturally in the open air. Air drying takes time, which is why we cut well ahead of the season rather than to order. By the time a load leaves us it is below 20% moisture, which is the level at which wood burns cleanly instead of smouldering.
Burning wet wood is a false economy. Most of the energy goes into boiling off the water rather than heating the room, you get far more smoke, and the tar and creosote it leaves behind coats your flue and becomes a chimney fire risk. Dry wood lights faster, burns hotter and keeps the glass on your stove clear.
We are not currently signed up to the Woodsure Ready to Burn scheme, so we do not make a certified claim. What we will tell you is exactly how the wood is cut, stacked and dried, and you are welcome to come and look at the crates.
Which logs should you buy
If you burn most nights through the winter, buy hardwood. Oak, ash and beech are dense, so a load lasts longer and you are not up and down refilling the stove all evening. It costs more per cubic metre and works out cheaper per hour of heat.
If you are lighting the odd fire at weekends, or you want something that gets going fast, softwood is the better buy at £120. It is also the right wood for a pizza oven, where you want quick, fierce heat rather than a long slow burn.
If you cannot decide, order mixed. It is what most of our regulars end up on. You use the softwood to get it lit and the hardwood to hold it, and at £130 a cubic metre it is barely more than straight softwood.
Where we deliver
Our delivery area runs from Chester out across the south and mid Wirral, up through Ellesmere Port, and over the border into Flintshire and Deeside. Pick your area for local delivery details:
- Logs delivered in Chester
- Logs delivered on the Wirral
- Logs delivered in Ellesmere Port
- Logs delivered in Flintshire, Deeside and North Wales
Not on that list? Ring us anyway. We cover a wider patch for tree work than we do for logs, and if you are on the edge of it we will tell you honestly whether it is worth it.
Firewood for pubs, restaurants, holiday lets and campsites
Domestic deliveries are the bulk of what we do, but we also supply trade customers who get through a lot more and need it to turn up without chasing.
- Pubs and restaurants running log burners in the bar or a wood-fired pizza oven in the kitchen
- Holiday lets, cottages and glamping sites that need stock in before every changeover through the season
- Campsites and caravan parks selling logs on to guests
- Farm shops and garden centres wanting a local supply rather than a pallet of imported wood
- Estates and large houses with more than one fire to keep going
For regular trade orders we will agree a standing delivery so you are not phoning up every fortnight, and we can price by the load rather than the cubic metre. Speak to Steve on 07885 680412.
Woodchip and biomass
Alongside logs we produce woodchip from our own arisings. We run a Morbark HT1684 and an Ahwi RT400 mulcher, so we can chip on site or supply chip by the load for paths, borders, equestrian surfaces and biomass. Chip is priced by the job rather than off a list, so call and tell us what you need it for.
Frequently asked questions
How much are logs?
Hardwood is £150 a cubic metre, softwood is £120 and mixed is £130. Kindling is £5 a net. Delivery is free within 10 miles of Chester, so the price you are quoted is the price you pay.
Is there a minimum order?
No. We will deliver a single cubic metre, and inside 10 miles it still comes with free delivery. A lot of log firms will not come out for less than two or three.
Do you deliver in bulk bags or tonne bags?
No. We sell loose loads only, tipped off the van where you want them. It works out better value because you are not paying for the bag, and a loose load is easier to stack than emptying a bag out.
How far do you deliver, and is it free?
Free within 10 miles of our yard in Chester. Past that we decide case by case on the size of the order, and if you are only a little outside we will usually still do it free on two cubic metres or more. Give us your postcode when you ring.
Are your logs seasoned?
Yes. Everything is cut, split and stacked in crates to dry naturally in the open air, and it goes out below 20% moisture. We are not signed up to the Woodsure Ready to Burn scheme, so we will not claim to be certified, but we are happy to tell you exactly how any load has been dried.
What is the difference between hardwood and softwood?
Hardwood is denser, so it burns longer and hotter and suits a stove you run every night. Softwood lights more easily and burns faster, which makes it good for weekend fires, fire pits and pizza ovens. Mixed gives you both and is our most popular load.
How long will a cubic metre last?
For an average log burner run most evenings in winter, roughly four to six weeks. It depends on the size of your stove and how hard you run it.
How quickly can you deliver?
Usually within a few days, and often sooner outside the busiest weeks. From late October onwards it gets busy, so order ahead if you can rather than waiting until you are down to your last basket.
